Giving voice to the Christmas message
Join us in a night of reflective contemplation about the spirit of Christmas, in the atmosphere of beautiful Knox Metropolitan United Church. We’re bringing in vocalists to help us illuminate the message of Christmas. These themes are just as important now as they were 300 years ago. What better way to exhibit them than with music, the universal language?
Christmas is a hectic time while we frantically prepare for family get-togethers. We are offering a time of quiet and reflection — leave your stress at the door! In the concert, we will play soothing instrumental music. Listen to these swaying pastorales and reflective pieces played on baroque instruments, which are much mellower and gentler than their modern counterparts.
Composers in the Baroque period were often organists at busy churches, so they wrote a lot of sacred music for their church choirs. We will delve back in time and find early origins for some of our favourite sacred Christmas songs. A Quartet of Singers will join us to give voice to these old texts. Even though these words were written hundreds of years ago, they illuminate themes which are so important to us today, no matter what spiritual path you walk: love, joy, hope and peace.
